25. Rock Cottage
The first house at Clifton, built 1794 in. plain Georgian style, in Regency times a lodging houses.Damaged in a storm in 1836 its sea wall amongst first constructed. Burnt 1908 it was rebuilt as thatched cottage orne by eminent local architect RW,Sampson(1866-1950) retaining only verandah from old house. Associated with Wills family of tobacco fame. Gifted 1989 under will of Dr. Russell Vernon for benifit of the National Trust.
Where is this plaque located?
After exploring the beautiful Connaught Gardens exit via the main entrance steps or along the step free route past the Pill Box. Both require negotiating the main road that runs past the gardens to cross to the other side. Follow the pavement down Peak Hill and on the right as you are approaching the bottom of the hill you will see the Rock COttage plaque on th front of the building.
