Description: Sidmouth in Devon has its roots in the seafaring tradition as do most of the coastal towns in Devon. This beautiful regency town has grown from the village where most of its inhabitants struggled to make a living from fishing.This East Devon Valley which is part of Devons Jurassic Coast,still has the descendants of those fisherman,s families continuing to provide the area with local fish and shellfish.Located in the original fisherman's yard by the Ham,at the eastern end of the Esplanade is Sidmouth Trawlers,a fishmonger well known in the area for the excellent quality of its locally caught fish and shellfish. Established in the 1960,s by STAN BAGWELL one of the local fisherman, this family run business maintains the high standards in endeavouring to provide for all lovers of seafood a large variety of fish and shellfish sourced from local fishermen. The Bagwell family takes great pride in the varoius national craftsmanship awards they have won over the years.Filleting and preparation,together with friendly advice and recommendations for cooking are all part of the service. Insulated packaging is available to take home a selection of the freshest seafood-from brill,dover sole, plaice,lemon sole and dabs to mackerel, bass and whiting.Many other varieties are available according to seasonal catches. Crabs and lobsters are part of the ready to eat service of cooked seafood available which includes whelks,cockles,mussels,prawns and crabmeat. Sandwiches are made to order. Purchases may be left in the refrigeration for collection later in the day,leaving customers safe in the knowledge that their favourite seafood will not be on some other plate that night. The shop at the HAM, The Esplanade, Port Royal, Sidmouth Devon is open TUESDAY to FRIDAY 9am to 4pm SATURDAY 9am to 1pm SUNDAY 10am to 4pm In January the SHOP CLOSES from the second MONDAY for one month.
