The Tour Of Britain - Sidmouth Stage

Stage 6 Friday 20th September

Sidmouth - Honiton - Willand - Tiverton - Bickleigh - Stoke Canon - Exeter - Starcross - Chudleigh - Moretonhampstead - Bovey Tracey - Haytor

A truly amazing day!!

The Tour of Britain race start was unbelievable!

Huge crowds gathered in Sidmouth for the start of the Tour of Britain stage 6 race and all other events and spectacles that were ongoing this morning.

The esplanade was host to some amazing bike skills by Andrei Burton, a bike stunt artist who dazzled the crowd with his jaw dropping leaps and jumps over ridiculously impossible obstacles. There were business stands, events and displays for people to enjoy as the riders were warming up, assembling and then signing up on the rostrum overlooking the esplanade.

The start of the race was lead and cheered on by a procession of children through the first part of the town on bikes. The crowds then gave a huge roar as the first cars, motorbikes and cameras rolled through. They were followed by the riders lead out by Sir Bradley Wiggins and Mark Cavendish up to the start line in Sidford for the arduous and fast ride to Haytor, dartmoor.

From being out and about and all the images we have received and seen on Twitter and Facebook it seems that everyone enjoyed the experience! With news of the race returning every other year, there's even more excitement post race from the town.

The race was 137km from Sidmouth the Dartmoor and was won by Simon Yates. Congratulations from the Sidmouth Town Website!!
